Understanding Skin Tanning
Tanning is your skin's natural defence mechanism against ultraviolet (UV) radiation. When UV rays penetrate the skin, specialised cells called melanocytes ramp up production of melanin - the pigment that darkens the skin to shield deeper layers from DNA damage. While this is protective, repeated tanning leads to long-term pigmentation, uneven tone, premature aging, and a dull, tired complexion.
In Indian skin, which is naturally rich in melanin, tanning can be stubborn and persistent - often lingering for months without proper treatment. The good news: modern dermatological procedures can safely lift tan, even out skin tone, and restore natural luminosity.
