HydraFacial has one of the cleanest safety profiles in cosmetic dermatology — most patients walk out with zero issues. That said, it's still a procedure, and a few reactions are possible.
Normal and expected
- Mild redness for 1–2 hours post-treatment
- Slight tingling during the serum infusion
- Skin feeling tight or dry for 24 hours — expected post-exfoliation
- Small pimples in week 1 — usually pre-existing congestion clearing
Less common but still normal
- Purging — a burst of breakouts in the first 1–2 sessions as deep congestion clears
- Temporary rash if sensitive to a specific booster serum
- Mild bruising at a vacuum-extraction point if skin's fragile
Rare — flag these
- Allergic reaction to a booster — itching, hives, widespread redness
- Worsening cystic acne — protocol needs adjustment
- Hyperpigmentation on very reactive skin — rare with dermatologist protocols
When to call
Redness beyond 6 hours, itching or hives, any blistering, or unusual darkening in the treated area. Rare but worth same-day review.
Who should skip it
- Active cold sore or herpes outbreak on the face
- Active severe cystic acne (until controlled)
- First-trimester pregnancy (precautionary — most ingredients are safe, but it's elective)
- Known allergies to any booster ingredient (flag at consultation)
